The complexity and ease of this wine makes it one of my favourite Sauv Blanc’s from the Yarra. Not surprising it comes from a combination of Willowlake Vineyard and the Out of Step duo. The malo softens it out, but doesn’t deter the line of the acidity driving the wine. Still a fruit forward Sauv, but with plenty more going on.
“I love Willowlake. There’s no question that 2016 threw up some challenges with heat that pretty much lasted from the start of December right through to harvest, which was, as a result, a couple of weeks earlier than usual. But the thing about a brilliant site, old vines & an astute grower is that the fruit was still of remarkable quality. Concentration, great acidity, in a word “balanced”…….In fact I’d say the feature of the vintage is that perhaps the wine has been imbued with a bit more power & richness, whilst still well & truly verging away from being defined by any overt tropical flavours. As with the previous Willowlake sauvignon blanc, the 2016 is all about fruit intensity, flint & savouriness whilst being fresh, textural & most importantly delicious.” – Out of Step.
